Length is definitely a concern for many women who worry about the appropriateness of a knit tunic and whether it can be worn as a party dress . The widespread availability of thicker, ponte or double-knit leggings helps alleviate that concern, says Rocher.
The heavy weight doesnt show as much leg shape or detail, and many styles have seaming running the length of the leg and across the behind, making them look more like pants.
That slenderizes and breaks up the leg too. Sometimes when you put on leggings, you just feel like it shows everything, says Rocher.
Boots also help balance out the look of a party dress , in a shorter, chunkier style or tall to the knee, to help cover some of that exposed leg.
Still, theres a fine line that shouldnt be crossed when it comes to wearing a party dress s to the office, she adds. The fingertip rule is an oldie but a goody make sure the bottom of your skirt extends just past your fingertips when your hands are at your sides. I think for work, thats a good one.
Accessories help make the party dress even more versatile. Try belting one for a different look, like the grey Maison tunic shown here, with braided detail. Jewelry also can dress the look up or down.
They are actually really great for accessorizing because they are so basic and comfortable that you can do any of your favourite accessories with them belts and bangles, long necklaces, short necklaces, says Pierce.
While tunics and party dress have been around for a while, theyre available now in even more variety, Rocher says.
The newness about tunics this year is theres more novelty, with prints, with braided detail, billowy tops and larger cowls.
Pierce too, says shes got a wide range in stock, including cable-knit, cowl-necked, fitted and loose. Detail-wide, Im seeing brighter colours this year and embellishments, like studs.
Half of my friends wore the same ****tail dress to senior prom: it was yellow, backless and an exact copy of the gown Kate Hudson wears in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Now, knockoffs of high profile ****tail dress are even more prevalent. Kate Middleton hadn't even cut the cake at her reception, for example, before designers were busy replicating her wedding dress. And it's not just those iconic ensembles that get the Xerox treatment, but lower profile ****tail dress, too, like the Prada gown that Hailee Steinfeld wore to the SAG awards, at right.
Yet while I understand the logic behind such knockoffsthe originals are often remarkably distinct but rarely affordableI'm not sure such literal translations are for me.
